Outside the quantum-technology scope of this portal (particle and nuclear physics (quantum chromodynamics)): the title names quantum science but no quantum technology. The record is kept for reference and left out of the default projects listing and counts.
Project funded by Research Council of Finland, grant 335301. Participating organisations named by the source: University of Jyväskylä. Funded amount: EUR 159,780, as stated by the source. Runs 2020-09-01 to 2023-01-31. Keywords: Physical sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2021-02-15); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD), the theory of strong interactions, is now being tested more precisely than ever by the experimental data on high-energy nuclear collisions emerging from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). At the LHC, the relevant degrees of freedom of nuclei are quarks and gluons (partons) and many processes can be understood by considering collision between two such elementary particles. The goals of this proposal are to establish a unified description of the distributions of partons inside the nuclei of all sizes (from proton to lead nucleus) and to investigate the non-linear limit in which a proper description requires consideration of collisions between more elementary particles. In addition, the topical questions of parton-to-hadron fragmentation and the role of global momentum conservation in the centrality determination of collisions involving heavy ions are to be investigated. The methods used range from analytic calculations to massive numerical simulations.
