Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Grant for positions or stipends), grant 2018-04125_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: KTH, Royal Institute of Technology. Funded amount: SEK 3,280,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2019-01-01 to 2022-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Kemi, Chemical Sciences, Fysikalisk kemi, Physical Chemistry. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: In this project, quantum dot materials for solar cell applications will be studied to gain insights into the fundamental photo-physics of the materials, the mechanism of the solar energy conversion process at an atomic level and the stability of materials under illumination. To do so, new opportunities with time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy will be used to study the evolution of the excited electronic structure in quantum dot materials. The use of X-ray photons in time-resolved measurements allows for the photoemission of electrons from electronically excited materials and therefore for the direct determination of the excited state electronic structure including atomic level information from core levels. With the development of new photoelectron spectrometers with improved detection efficiencies, the application of this method to the study of solar cell materials has become feasible and this project will make use of this. This new type of experiments will be carried out at facilities with complementary energy ranges and time scales. The results are expected to lead to a better understanding of the fundamental properties of quantum dot materials and how they can be applied in efficient and stable solar cells enabling in the future.
