Operation co-funded by EU cohesion policy (European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)) under the programme Competitiveness Entrepreneurship and Innovation - GR - ERDF/ESF (2014GR16M2OP001), managing authority: Υπουργείο Οικονομίας, Ανάπτυξης και Τουρισμού/ Ειδική Υπηρεσία Διαχείρισης ΕΠ «Ανταγωνιστικότητα, Επιχειρηματικότητα και Καινοτομία». Beneficiary: ΙΔΡΥΜΑ ΤΕΧΝΟΛΟΓΙΑΣ ΕΡΕΥΝΑΣ. Location: Greece. Budget: total eligible expenditure EUR 200,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2020-08-06 to 2023-08-05. Source: Kohesio, EU cohesion policy projects managed by national and regional authorities (not CORDIS); selected because its summary names quantum technology. Summary from Kohesio (English machine translation by the source): Functional devices for quantum information processing and communication must use the appropriate material-light interfaces. These interfaces play a key role in bringing quantum devices closer to practical applications. Thus, building the conceptual and technological basis for such interfaces will pave the way for scalable quantum computation and quantum Internet. The overall objective of this proposal is to address the crucial challenge of studying, implementing and optimising innovative, dynamically controlled interfaces between matter and light. Photons can carry efficient and durable quantum information over long distances. Cold trapped ions can be properly controlled to allow high fidelity quantum information processing, while atomic sets are particularly suitable for long-lived quantum memory, as well as nonlinear creation of non-classical correlations between optical bonds. The goal of the PACE-IN project is to develop reliable quantum interfaces between atomic systems and photons. We will develop and demonstrate massive parallel processing, storage and transmission of quantum information from the previously unexplored collective, multimodal quantum states to atomic sets and ion crystals. In addition, we will design methods for characterising quantum entanglement and non-classicality of quantum states carried from atoms and ions to photons.Efficient interconnection mechanisms between “static” atomic qubits or sets, and “flying” (photonic) quantum variables, whether discrete or continuous, must be robust and dynamically controlled to allow the best possible exploitation of their respective higher functions, while maintaining overall reliability, while maintaining overall accuracy. The scientific and technological challenge that will be addressed in this project is the conceptually and experimentally optimised processing of quantum information in interfaces, for the successful implementation of escalating quantum technologies, combined with long-distance [shortened; the full text is on the Kohesio page]
