Project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT), grant 2020.08465.BD. Runs 2021-01-01 to 2024-12-31. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-07-18); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The project seeks implementation of multiplexed FRET-based sensing schemes for the monitoring of molecules of biological and environmental relevance. FRET-based sensors, relying on the non-radiative transfer of energy from donor to acceptor, can assure great sensitivity, however selectivity could be a hindrance, mostly in the analysis of complex samples. Multiplexed FRET, resorting to multiple donor/acceptor pairs, arranged in specific configurations, provide multi-detections per analyte that guarantee re-enforced selectivity. Alternatively, the multi-detections could afford simultaneous multi-analyte determination. Investigation will contemplate both distinct donor/acceptor pairs (combining semiconductor quantum dots, photoluminescent molecules and chromophores) and configurations and aims at evaluating formats that will facilitate the construction of easy to handle and portable sensors for in-field analysis. These configurations will include parallel arrangements (n donors/n acceptors, n-plexed detections), concentric (1 donor/n+1 acceptor, n+1-plexed detections) and linear (1 donor/n-plexed relays/1 acceptor, 1 detection). The development of readout devices and signal processing routines is also contemplated.
