Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Grant for positions or stipends), grant 2018-00287_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Stockholm University. Funded amount: SEK 3,150,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2018-07-01 to 2021-12-11. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Atom- och molekylfysik och optik, Atom and Molecular Physics and Optics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-06); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The security of digital data is of utmost importance in modern communications. Continuous variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) guarantees theoretical unconditional data security by relying on fundamental principles of physics. The present project proposes the first CV-QKD prototype that uses multi-core optical fibers (MCFs) to increase the communication rate and enhance security against side-channel attacks of practical implementations. The project is divided in four tasks to be executed in 3 years. Task 1-3 (months 1-26) will be performed in the Optoelectronics group, at ICFO. Task 4 (months 26-36) will be carried out in the Quantum Optics & Information Group, at Stockholm University. Task 1 involves the fabrication a prototype with a rate >3 Mb/s. This prototype will be extended to implement measurement-device independent CV-QKD (Task 2) resistant to detector side-channel attacks. Task 3 focuses on exploring novel side-channel attacks and countermeasures. Finally, Task 4 will provide the basis for a multi-user CV-QKD untrusted network with MCFs.MCFs are poised to be the basis of future communication infrastructure. The results of this project could pave the way towards the network-integration and wide-scale deployment of CV-QKD. The Optoelectronic group at ICFO has large experience bringing fundamental research in quantum physics to real-world devices. Therefore, carryout out this project at ICFO will enable to develop technology with direct societal impact.
