Project funded by Research Council of Finland, grant 371757. Participating organisations named by the source: Aalto University. Funded amount: EUR 640,782, as stated by the source. Runs 2025-09-01 to 2029-08-31. Keywords: Physical sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-07-06); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Quantum technology and science have become central to mainstream discussions, driven by their potential to revolutionize information processing with faster, more energy-efficient technologies. However, before quantum technologies can be widely applied, a deeper understanding of quantum matter and its tunability is essential—a challenge that remains highly complex. This proposal focuses on investigating and tuning quantum matter in atomically thin, two-dimensional materials. The approach combines field-effect gating, a core technology in modern semiconductors, with physical property characterization at the atomic scale using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The experimental research will be carried out at Aalto University. We anticipate that the success of this proposal will not only advance the fundamental understanding of quantum magnetism but also drive innovations in quantum and spintronic technologies.
