Operation co-funded by EU cohesion policy (European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)) under the programme EU Structural Funds Investments - LT - ERDF/ESF/CF/YEI (2014LT16MAOP001), managing authority: Finansų ministerija. The source names no beneficiary for this operation. Location: Vilnius County (NUTS LT011); Lithuania. Budget: total eligible expenditure EUR 996,215.51; EU co-financing EUR 996,215.51 (co-financing rate 100%), as stated by the source. Runs 2019-01-02 to 2022-12-31. Source: Kohesio, EU cohesion policy projects managed by national and regional authorities (not CORDIS); selected because its summary names quantum technology. Summary from Kohesio (English machine translation by the source): By 2030, 20 % of Western European and North American adults will suffer from osteoarthritis (OA). At present, in the diagnosis of OA, radiography has become the “golden standard”, it is performed only in the presence of clinical signs, which usually occur during the progression of the disease. To date, reliable, quantifiable and easily measurable biomarkers have not been developed to help diagnose OA in the early stages, monitor disease progression and benefit of treatment. The aim of this interdisciplinary project is to improve the research development and commercialisation capabilities of IMC by attracting an experienced foreign researcher, developing multiplex analytical technology for detecting early and specific combinations of OA biomarkers. So far a wide variety of OA-specific -omics biomarkers have been identified. The idea and purpose of this project is to evaluate the discovery of biomarkers related to joint tissue metabolism that were found in serum OA patients in previous studies. Selected target biologies will be determined by immunoassay using and constructing sensitive nanotechnology of multi-colour quantum dots. The developed multiplex technology will be used for quantitative detection of multiple optical sensing systems. The effectiveness of biomarker sensing technology will be assessed in human OA cartilage tissue models in vitro and in patients’ blood and synovial fluid that will be obtained in a pilot clinical trial by evaluating radiography and magnetic resonance assays and resulting in correlation with treatment response. Technology that allows one year to detect biomarkers of decomposition and synthesis will provide great potential for innovation and commercialisation, and the ability to identify preclinical biomarkers for the decay of molecular and preradiological phase cartilage and/or the inflammatory nature of biological samples. Proposed optical biosensor systems will be used for diagnostics, improving innovative personalised treatment [shortened; the full text is on the Kohesio page]
