Project funded by Research Council of Finland, grant 349594. Participating organisations named by the source: Aalto University. Funded amount: EUR 459,901, as stated by the source. Runs 2022-09-01 to 2026-08-31. Keywords: Physical sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2026-07-23); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Quantum technology is a rocketing field of science and industry with great expectations for societal benefits. Whereas thermal management is already important in quantum cryoelectronics such as in superconducting quantum computers, the increased power dissipation in future large-scale devices poses challenges and opportunities: minimize the number of power cables and take advantage of the waste heat. To this end, we aim for scientific breakthroughs combining superconducting quantum electronics and the fascinating field of quantum thermodynamics. Namely, we aim to demonstrate useful nanoelectronic devices powered by thermal energy. In previous experiments, external driving fields consumed more power than obtained from the thermal energy making the devices not practically useful. We expect to create impact by inspiring the introduction of useful thermal quantum devices in various systems and promoting new theoretical understanding on thermodynamics at the quantum level.
