Funded amount: SEK 4,000,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2024-01-01 to 2027-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Atom- och molekylfysik och optik, Atom and Molecular Physics and Optics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-06); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Quantum information science and technology exploits the physics of quantum systems for the purpose of information technologies. A major promise of the field is quantum communication systems, which are both essential for the distribution and storage of quantum information, and have led to a new security paradigm in cryptography. In this project, together with a new PhD student, I plan to study how communication is influenced by the presence of entanglement between the sender and receiver. The focus is on experimentally realistic scenarios where a single pair of entangled particles is used to assist a single superposition message, creating a synergy between these two paradigmatic quantum features. This will require theoretical innovation on the state-of-the-art methods for analyzing quantum communication. There is ample reason to believe that entanglement will significantly change the physics but little is presently known about this topic. Therefore, the main objective is to understand these scenarios, to build a toolbox for analyzing them and then exploit it for applications in e.g. device characterization and cryptography. This project connects with the national program, the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology, to advance quantum technology in Sweden. The project also brings theoretical expertise in quantum communication to the Swedish quantum information landscape, thus complementing the present, more well-established, experimental research activity.
