Operation co-funded by EU cohesion policy (European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)) under the programme Multi-regional Spain - ERDF (2014ES16RFOP002), managing authority: Subdirección General de Gestión del FEDER, de la Dirección General de Fondos Europeos del Ministerio de Hacienda.. The source names no beneficiary for this operation. Location: Province of Granada (NUTS ES614); Spain. Budget: total eligible expenditure EUR 292,389.53; EU co-financing EUR 233,911.62, as stated by the source. Runs 2018-01-01 to 2021-03-31. Source: Kohesio, EU cohesion policy projects managed by national and regional authorities (not CORDIS); selected because its summary names quantum technology. Summary from Kohesio (English machine translation by the source): In this project we are applying for funding to purchase equipment to improve the performance of the Ion Traps and Lasers Laboratory that is due to its nature one of the four laboratories at the University of Granada named as singular laboratory in advanced technologies. Within this project we aim at optimizing the use of experimental setups; i) a Penning traps beamline, house in a 7-Tesla superconducting solenoid and ii) a couple of radiofrequency-trap experiments. Having the two systems requested in this application, i.e., the 729-nm laser with a line width in the order of 1 Hz, and the diode lasers and vacuum equipment, will make easier the commissioning and the realization of state-of-the-art experiments. Furthermore this equipment will allow reaching the quantum regime and carry out experiments in the framework of Quantum Technologies using on or two qubits, following proposals presented by Spanish theory groups worldwide recognized. At the same time it will be possible to go on with the research that motivated the construction of the laboratory, namely the development of a novel technique to introduce optical detection in precision Penning-trap mass spectrometry for fundamental nuclear physics and the electronic coupling of ions stored in different traps through the charged they induce in a common electrode. This, combined with the possibility to address the clock transition will constitute a unique platform enabling further collaborations with the theory groups.
