About the expert directory
Information for the people listed in the expert directory, whose data was not obtained from them (GDPR Article 14).
Who is responsible
The portal is run by the Quantum Europe platform team. The data controller of this demonstration is the portal owner, Oscar Diez, who operates this demonstration in a personal capacity.
Not stated yet on this demonstration site: a postal address and the contact of a Data Protection Officer. They will be published on the privacy notice before any real launch.
Why we list people and on what basis
To help EU institutions, Member States, researchers and companies find who works on which quantum technology in Europe, and whom to contact for programmes. The legal basis is our legitimate interest and that of the users in finding expertise (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)); the assessment is published with the portal documentation.
What we list and where it comes from
Name, current organisation and its country, role where an official page states it, the current position as the person states it on ORCID, quantum topics and technology pillars, the number of works and citations with links, ORCID, OpenAlex, Wikidata, INSPIRE-HEP and Semantic Scholar identifiers or pages, the EU projects their publications acknowledge, roles stated on official lists (ERC principal investigator, EC evaluator), a homepage at the organisation’s domain and a freely licensed photo, if found.
Sources: OpenAlex author and work records (CC0); Wikidata (CC0), INSPIRE-HEP (CC0 metadata), Semantic Scholar (with attribution) and the ORCID Public API, each matched by the person’s ORCID iD only; principal investigators named on official grant pages; OpenAIRE (CC BY 4.0) for the EU projects acknowledged in publications; principal investigators and evaluators as official ERC and Commission pages and lists name them, matched to listed people by name and host institution (evaluators: by an exact, unique name; nobody is added from an evaluator list); offices named on official contact pages (functional contacts only); freely licensed images on Wikimedia Commons; and the person’s own homepage at their organisation’s domain. ORCID iDs come from OpenAlex. Every fact shows its source and the date it was read.
We never collect private e-mail addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, dates of birth, nationality, gender or any special category of data, never copy photos from university or company pages and never infer personal traits.
Who sees what
The listing and the person pages are public and show professional information only. Person pages are not offered to search engines (noindex) and are not part of site search, the open data catalogue or any export.
Signed-in EC staff, Member State users and editors may also see a work e-mail address, only when the person made it public on ORCID or their own homepage at their organisation’s domain shows it, with that source and date. Addresses are never taken from papers. It is for professional contact, not for marketing or bulk mailing; its views are limited and logged.
How long
Entries are rebuilt from the sources every month. A person is listed while they have at least five quantum works with a European affiliation in the last five years, the latest within two years, or hold a listed role; otherwise the entry is dropped at the next rebuild.
Your rights
You can ask for access, correction or removal, and you can object to the listing at any time. Use "Remove or correct this entry" on your page. A removal request from an address at your organisation's domain hides the entry at once; an editor confirms it. A removed person is kept on a suppression list of hashed identifiers so that a later rebuild never lists them again. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority.
