Operation co-funded by EU cohesion policy (European Social Fund (ESF)) under the programme Human Resources Development Education and Lifelong Learning - GR - ESF/YEI (2014GR05M9OP001), managing authority: Location: Greece. Budget: total eligible expenditure EUR 72,100, as stated by the source. Runs 2018-07-02 to 2020-05-02. Source: Kohesio, EU cohesion policy projects managed by national and regional authorities (not CORDIS); selected because its summary names quantum technology. Summary from Kohesio (English machine translation by the source): This proposal is called upon to carry out a difficult task which will, however, bring innovative results at the cutting edge of modern research. Despite its theoretical casing, the results of the work will leave promises of future utilisation at a more practical level. In particular, this proposal concerns innovative methods of calculation that have been proposed in recent years and more specifically, bio-inspired computation models, i.e. formulas and means of calculation that function according to, or respectively, some biological, or more generally physical process. Examples include membrane computation, cellular automation, quantum computing, and RNA and DNA computing. The study of computational methods related to quantum computation expects the development and construction of the quantum computer. The demand for such computer systems is enormous, which is highlighted by the funding of institutions and colossal companies, such as Google and D-WAVE, IBM, etc.In this proposal we focus on the use of such models in problems from optimisation and combinatorics. Also, emphasis is placed on the connection of these non-conventional modes of computation with elements from game theory. In conclusion, basic research is carried out in this Act on non-standard models of calculation, with emphasis on innovative, bio-inspired models. An effort will be made to propose and introduce new means of calculation and use of these in the process of modeling complex processes and optimisation problems. In the framework of the study, the necessary tests and simulations will be carried out in specially designed environments, which will contribute to the final results as they are published. The most modern proposed systems from literature and international practices will be examined, while a very important part of the research will be the effort to propose an innovative, unpublished calculation model inspired by a specific biological/natural process.
