Project funded by Research Council of Finland, grant 330911. Participating organisations named by the source: VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland; VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. Funded amount: EUR 287,150, as stated by the source. Runs 2020-09-01 to 2023-08-31. Keywords: Physical sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2021-02-15); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Trace gases are molecular species present at very low concentrations in gaseous samples. Their concentrations are an image of the processes contributing to the gas sample by emission and extraction of gases. Such samples include atmospheric samples, human exhaled breath or power-plant emission. The higher the resolution of a trace gas detector, the better the processes can be studied. We will bring in-situ trace-gas detection to new orders of magnitude, allowing real-time detection in demanding applications for various fields such as breath analysis, radioactive leak detection, combustion diagnostics or radio-carbon dating. The high-resolution real-time detection will enable scientists to make significantly more detailed studies in these fields by for example improved sensing of greenhouse gas sources. Furthermore, it will directly enable application such as real-time monitoring of nuclear waste handling where fast detection of leaks can prevent catastrophes.
