Project funded by Research Council of Finland, grant 346144. Participating organisations named by the source: VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland; CSC - IT Center for Science (Finland); VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. Funded amount: EUR 247,983, as stated by the source. Runs 2022-01-01 to 2024-12-31. Keywords: Computer and information sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2022-02-08); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Quantum computers can dramatically increase the impact of research, by enabling solutions to problems that will forever stay intractable using conventional computing. Quantum computing is expected to impact practically all areas of research. Some of the most pressing challenges of our society, from accurate modelling of complex weather systems, via optimisation of resource usage, to development of novel, sustainable materials can be tackled with unprecedented vigour. To harness the full potential of this quantum revolution, quantum computers need tailor-made algorithms and software that take advantage of quantum physical phenomena like superposition and entanglement. To catalyse the uptake of quantum computing and quantum software development, access to a mature quantum computing infrastructure is crucial. The Finnish Quantum Computing Infrastructure (FiQCI) will provide an open-access platform for quantum computing, serving the entire national research and development scene
