Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2009-04163_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Karlstad University. Funded amount: SEK 1,737,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2010-01-01 to 2012-12-31. Keywords: Oklassificerat, Unclassified. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The research programme is a continuation and renewal of my previous research programme and is divided into four overlapping research areas, although I intend to focus on the first two during the next three years: (i) Cosmology. (ii) Spacetime singularities and quantum cosmology. (iii) Criticality and astrophysics. (iv) Kinetic theory and its use in self-gravitating systems. According to standard cosmology the universe can be described by spatially homogenous and isotropic relativistic models on sufficiently large scales, but not on smaller scales. In area (i) one goal is to develop physically unambiguous efficient analytical and numerical linear and non-linear perturbation methods, simultaneously treating "prior" cosmological assumptions clearly. In (ii) the aim is to describe the nature of generic singularities inside black holes and at the beginning of our universe, which involve developments in classical as well as quantum descriptions of gravity. A related issue, studied in (iii), is how microscopic matter properties affect gravitational collapse and macroscopic features of e.g. neutron stars and black holes. This is intimately connected with criticality, which provides a link to many other research fields as well. In area (iv) the objective is to study what happens when a self-gravitating perfect fluid is replaced with a more sophisticated kinetic matter description, i.e., the goal is to investigate structural stability.
