Project funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation (Projects), grant NNF22OC0080200. Participating organisations named by the source: DTU Technical University of Denmark. Runs n/a to 2024-12-31. Keywords: Biophysics, Biotechnology, Engineering, Other research field, Photonics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-08-01); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Heart disease is the number one killer in the developed and developing world, and 80% of those deaths are preventable. Although changes in lifestyle, such as better diet and smoking cessation are key to preventing such disease, we also need better diagnostic tools in order to catch problems early on. We wish to diagnose such problems without invasive surgery, remotely from outside the patient’s body. This can be done by recording the biomagnetic field produced by the pulses of electricity as the heart beats. Today, this can only be realised in large, specialised facilities using expensive, bulky sensors. In this project, we will develop and commercialise a new type of sensor using diamonds. Fitting into the palm of the hand and working anywhere, this will allow biomagnetic recording to escape the confines of large hospitals, enabling new possibilities for rapid, early diagnosis of heart disease and saving patient lives. _x000D_
