Project funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation (Projects), grant NNF24OC0094623. Participating organisations named by the source: Aarhus University. Runs 2029-08-31 to n/a. Keywords: Physics, Quantum Technologies. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2026-06-29); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: _x000D_ Lasers are often used for the microscopic investigation of small quantum mechanical objects, for example atoms, molecules or solids. These targets can absorb energy from the laser. The laser-matter interaction may, however, also lead to the generation of light with frequencies that are not present in the incoming laser pulse. It was recently realized that this latter generated light can have properties that are not possible to describe by classical physics. Rather, a more fundamental quantum mechanical description from the related research area of quantum optics must be applied. In this project, such quantum mechanical theory is developed and the sensitivity to the target is investigated. The generated light comes in short pulses with applications in quantum technology._x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_
