Funded amount: SEK 2,195,830, as stated by the source. Runs 2019-01-01 to 2021-08-01. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Atom- och molekylfysik och optik, Atom and Molecular Physics and Optics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The need for secure data transfer in our society is stronger than ever. Secure communication requires the realization of a quantum network, in which the exchange of quantum information (qubits) between physically separate systems is protected by the laws of physics. Connecting different network nodes requires the transmission of single photons as carriers of qubits. However, propagation loss strongly limits the distance of qubit transfer. In my project Hybrid Quantum Repeaters (HyQRep) I will realize an efficient and reliable link between quantum network nodes by developing a quantum repeater. A device relying on entanglement teleportation and qubit storage to transmit data. HyQRep takes advantage of a new hybrid approach using semiconductor quantum dots to generate on-demand entangled photons for the teleportation and room-temperature atomic vapor as a quantum memory to store qubits. In HyQRep I will efficiency interface both previously independent quantum systems, which allows to combine unprecedented on-demand entangled photon-pair generation with low-noise, long qubit storage - impossible to achieve with any single quantum system.HyQRep will demonstrate that a powerful synergy emerges from hybrid quantum systems, combining the advantages of solid-state and atomic physics. My multidisciplinary approach provides all building blocks to successfully implement quantum repeaters to connect quantum nodes, bringing us one big step closer to the realization of the quantum network.
