Project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT) (Avaliação UID 2023/2024), grant UID/04968/2025. Funded amount: EUR 1,463,820, as stated by the source. Runs 2025-01-01 to 2029-12-31. Keywords: Quantum Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, Materials and Photonics for Biomedicine, Multifunctional Nanostructures, Ultrafast Photonics and Spectroscopy, Extreme Condition@NECL-Nuclear Methods@ISOLDE-CERN. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2026-07-23); national funding data, not CORDIS; selected because its keywords name quantum. Abstract given by the source: One of the central ideas in science and technology is to understand and control the properties of matter in terms of its composition and structure. We are seeing a growing interest in the fundamental properties and applications of materials, especially when quantum electronic correlations give rise to collective behaviors that are not found in ordinary materials, giving rise to new emerging materials. Furthermore, by structuring matter at the nanoscale, we often obtain a different behavior compared to its macroscopic state, offering new technological applications using optical, electrical and/or magnetic properties. Fundamental research into nanomaterials and emerging materials offers new experimental and technological challenges that are intrinsically related to their complexity, reduced spatial scale and/or their response to ultra-short pulses. In addition, materials respond differently when subjected to different external stimuli, such as temperature, magnetic/electric fields or even external pressure. Therefore, the ability to experimentally control external parameters makes it possible to obtain information on complex physics issues in particular relating to spin, structure and their dynamics. This approach remains central to the 2025-29 activity plan. In this period, IFIMUP will benefit from the recent reinforcement of its experimental facilities under the NECL programme and from the Associated Laboratory (AL) it leads, the Laboratory of Physics for Materials and Emerging Technologies (LaPMET) through synergies among the 3 partner Institutions. IFIMUP is committed to carrying out advanced research and training in fundamental and applied physics, with a wide range of experimental conditions at its disposal, such as temperatures, electric and/or magnetic fields, high pressures or ultra-short pulses. The institute will continue to exploit the synergies created in recent years to make decisive contributions to national scientific and technological development by [shortened; the full text is on the OpenAIRE page]
