Project funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation (Investigators), grant NNF20OC0061673. Participating organisations named by the source: DTU Technical University of Denmark. Runs n/a to 2027-08-31. Keywords: Biological Physics, Methods, Physics, Quantum Technologies. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-08-01); national funding data, not CORDIS; selected because its keywords name quantum. Abstract given by the source: In this project, I want to develop and explore intracellular sensing by means of diamond-based quantum technology. Diamonds with so-called nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers show great promise as a future tool for NMR spectroscopy. I suggest to hold nanometer or micron sized diamonds with NV centers in an optical trap inside a live cell, and use the diamond material as an intracellular, on site, NMR spectrometer. In order to reach the goal, both optical trapping of nanodiamonds, and methods to ensure proper positioning of diamonds inside the cell, must be developed. Along the way, the trapped nanodiamonds will be used to measure the variation in temperature inside the cell, and their motion in the optical trap inside the cell will be converted into information on the mechanical characteristics of the interior of the cell, and important signature for both function and disease.
