Project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT) (Projectos de IC&DT de Consolidação de Competências e Recursos em Investigação - 2012), grant RECI/FIS-NAN/0183/2012. Funded amount: EUR 74,411.50, as stated by the source. Runs 2013-01-01 to 2015-12-31. Keywords: optical characterization, semiconductors and highly transparent ceramics, PL/PLE, TRPL, lifetimes, quantum yield. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2026-07-23); national funding data, not CORDIS; selected because its keywords name quantum. Abstract given by the source: The proposal aims at reinforcing and consolidating the capacities of the I3N Associated Research Laboratory in the development of micro and nanostructured materials, the research of which the semiconductors group of I3N/Aveiro is committed. This group has already more than 40 years of expertise in optical characterization of materials, possessing internationally recognized scientific skills measured by their participation in international projects and networks of excellence (Annex I) among other parameters. The here presented proposal aims at endowing the laboratory with technical equipment needed for a research of excellence, which, due to its nature and specificity, strongly depends on advanced technological equipment and highly qualified human resources. In the framework of the current proposal the solicited equipment enables reinforcing and extension of the group activity in the optical characterization field, consolidating its assertion as an international excellence research centre lined by high scientific quality standards and promoting the strengthening of national and international partnerships. In the presented application and in the framework of the research strategic mission of I3N/Aveiro, the following lines assume a relevant role: (i) Medical physics and biomedical applications; (ii) Sustainability and energy efficiency In the first case, the application aims at optimizing the optical properties of materials allowing new designs and systems for high-energy radiation detectors and the development of new efficient fluorescent materials for bioimaging agents. In the second case, the main target is to develop and characterize highly efficient materials for photovoltaic, solid-state light emitters and NIR photodetectors. The development, characterization and application of the materials will be performed in distinct nano and microstructured hosts, with emphasis on low-dimensional systems. The semiconductors group has its main activity focused on the [shortened; the full text is on the OpenAIRE page]
