Project funded by Research Council of Finland, grant 376211. Participating organisations named by the source: Aalto University. Funded amount: EUR 699,993, as stated by the source. Runs 2026-09-01 to 2030-08-31. Keywords: Physical sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2026-07-06); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Quantum technology has the potential to revolutionize fields like material science, pharmacology, medicine, and climate modelling. The quantum internet offers extraordinary computational capacity to tackle societys most complex challenges by enabling quantum devices to share information encoded in quantum states. However, processing and storing information in quantum computers currently requires extremely low temperatures, making it impossible to extend beyond ultra-cold environments. The MEQI project aims to develop a method for efficiently exchanging quantum information between quantum computers via light traveling through optical fibers. This breakthrough could enable robust connections between quantum computers, forming a quantum network that enahnces combined computational power. If successful, it could represent a significant advancement in quantum information science and bring the quantum internet closer to realization. The work will be conducted at Aalto University.
