Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2021-05790_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Linköping University. Funded amount: SEK 4,000,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2021-12-01 to 2025-11-30. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Den kondenserade materiens fysik, Condensed Matter Physics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: New information technology relies on the access of non-classic information, and thereby, spin-functionalized semiconductors have held the key for realizing novel spin-optoelectronics and quantum computation applications. Unfortunately, a major obstacle emerges due to the lack of ideal material templates for magnetically doping/alloying. On one hand, existing doped/alloyed semiconductors fail to establish true ferromagnetism at room temperature. On the other hand, the doping of isolated magnetic ions for quantum bits (qubits) applications is limited to few materials that are often difficult to fabricate and process. The MagPe project offers a library of new materials for magnetic ions incorporation by exploring magnetic doping and alloying effect in a series of solution processible lead-free halide double perovskite semiconductors. With the benefit of unique crystal structures that facilitate hosting/stabilizing a variety of magnetic ions, this project aims to offer new material discovery within two spin-functionalized research areas, namely 1) magnetic semiconductors and 2) optically active qubits with local symmetry control. The MagPe project approaches research challenges with a synergy of material physics, advanced electron-paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies, and ultrafast magneto-optical probes. The success of the MagPe project shall boost the technological forefront of semiconductor information technology, with the competing benefit due to low-cost production.
