Project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT) (FCT_CPCA_2020_01), grant CPCA/A0/7277/2020. Funded amount: EUR 1,227.78, as stated by the source. Runs 2021-01-01 to 2021-12-31. Keywords: Quantum computing, Radiation detection, Density functional theory, Solid state reactions, Exact sciences, Exact sciences/Physical sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2026-07-23); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: This proposal aims at assessing the technical issues to be solved before engaging on a future application for compute time dedicated to scientific problems related to defect engineering in silicon carbide. This materials is a semiconductor with which one can fabricate radiation detectors capable of sustaining very harsh conditions and at the same time it is a promising host for defects that can be employed in quantum communications and quantum computing. The plan involves basic but critical tasks which have to be accomplished before a proper proposal for HPC time to investigate the properties of defects in SiC related to the above applications. Hence, we will build software tools, make several performance tests, and finally make a few exploratory calculations of solid-state reactions involving two of the most promising single-photon emitters in SiC using hybrid density functional and many-body perturbation methods.
