Project funded by Research Council of Finland, grant 348854. Participating organisations named by the source: University of Turku. Funded amount: EUR 239,970, as stated by the source. Runs 2022-09-01 to 2025-08-31. Keywords: Physical sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2026-07-23); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: So called reservoir computing is a relatively new form of unconventional computing where information processing is harvested from generic physical systems somewhat like energy can be harvested from them. It is closely related to machine learning and in particular to processing of temporal signals. In recent years research on how quantum systems can be harnessed for reservoir computing has begun. On the theoretical side formal universality proofs have been put forward, whereas on the experimental side proof-of-principle experiments have been reported on the IBM quantum computers. The greatest challenges originate from the rather direct application of principles from the classical reservoir computing to quantum systems. The proposed research takes the field to a new level by following two previously missing research avenues: i) reservoir computing with quantum systems from the principles of quantum physics ii) reservoir computing for quantum information processing.
