Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Research environment), grant 2016-06122_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: KTH, Royal Institute of Technology. Funded amount: SEK 24,000,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2017-01-01 to 2022-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Atom- och molekylfysik och optik, Atom and Molecular Physics and Optics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-06); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Quantum sensing, the application of quantum phenomena to precision measurements, offers the prospect of performances beyond those allowed by classical physics. Important scientific and industrial impacts are expected from a cross-disciplinary effort to develop novel quantum sensing technologies. KTH offers the ideal landscape to establish such a synergy: the required expertise in fields as diverse as nanofabrication, quantum optics, superconductivity and biomolecular spectroscopy is already present, spread among several research groups with top international standing. This project shall develop and use a new generation of quantum sensors in combination with tailored optical sources, advanced spectroscopy and theoretical tools to enable sensing at the single-photon/single-molecule level with unprecedented efficiency, time resolution and spectral sensitivity from the ultraviolet to the mid-infrared. With interdisciplinary experiments, the quantum devices fabricated in our nanofabrication lab will be exploited for applications to biology and environmental monitoring.Furthermore, the project will provide new interactions and opportunities to generate novel ideas and cross-disciplinary innovations, by shaping new synergies, establishing a truly interdisciplinary forum and creating a stimulating dynamic environment and a Swedish pole of excellence in quantum science and technology, for young scientists to take on new research challenges across the borders of traditional disciplines.
