Project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT) (FCT_CPCA_2020_01), grant CPCA/A0/7292/2020. Funded amount: EUR 615, as stated by the source. Runs 2021-01-01 to 2021-12-31. Keywords: Disorder, quantum transport, optics, Exact sciences, Exact sciences/Physical sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-07-20); national funding data, not CORDIS; selected because its keywords name quantum. Abstract given by the source: The study of disorder in Condensed Matter Physics is as old as the subject itself and still remains one of the most relevant topics in the area. Impurities and defects are a side-product of the fabrication process but can be extremely useful too. Advances in material fabrication now allow us to control the amount of disorder present in the samples, giving the ability to choose between different phases of matter and to change the properties of the material. Analyzing the optical conductivity of the materials is one way to probe the properties of the samples. Therefore, it is critical to be able to predict the effect of the impurities in materials and accurately include them in our models and numerical simulations. For this reason, we developed a software (https://quantum-kite.com/) which is able to perform quantum transport simulations of realistic materials. The flexibility of the software allows us to include very general kinds of disorder, such as local structural defects, Anderson disorder and vacancies, which may be found in real samples. This software has recently been featured on phys.org as a powerful tool towards new quantum developments and has been tailored to excel in highly parallel HPC environments. The computational resources from this call would greatly benefit two ongoing projects (M-ERA-NET2/0002/2016 - UltraGraf and POCI-01-0145-FEDER-028887) by providing the means to test and characterize our models and provide further support to the optics team.
