Project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT) (FCT_CPCA_2020_01), grant CPCA/A0/7289/2020. Funded amount: EUR 6,911, as stated by the source. Runs 2021-01-01 to 2021-12-31. Keywords: Topological materials, Quantum transport, Optical Conductivities, Disorder, Exact sciences, Exact sciences/Physical sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-07-19); national funding data, not CORDIS; selected because its keywords name quantum. Abstract given by the source: Topological materials are currently one of the most studied subjects in Condensed Matter Physics. These exotic materials are able to sustain currents that are robust against defects and impurities and so are expected to be the next big revolution in electronics and computing. The simulation of their behaviour and subsequent characterization are critical components of the fabrication process and so it is important to have the proper numerical tools for this job. The optical response of topological materials to electromagnetic radiation provides both a mechanism to fine-tune certain properties of the material and a means to characterize their structure. We developed an open-source software (Quantum-KITE https://quantum-kite.com) that is able to simulate several material properties which can be readily measured, such as the optical response, providing a straightforward procedure to test several candidate materials for the desired properties. This software has recently been featured on phys.org as a powerful tool towards new quantum developments and has been tailored to excel in highly parallel HPC environments. The computational resources from this call would greatly benefit two ongoing projects (M-ERA-NET2/0002/2016 - UltraGraf and POCI-01-0145-FEDER-028887) by providing the means to test and characterize our models and provide further theoretical support to the optics team.
