Project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT) (Concurso de Projetos de I&D em Todos os Domínios Científicos - 2022 - PEX; Concurso de Projetos de I&D em Todos os Domínios Científicos - 2022), grant 2022.07897.PTDC. Funded amount: EUR 49,999.80, as stated by the source. Runs 2023-09-01 to 2025-03-31. Keywords: Quantum dots, Carbon dots, paper sensor, cancer biomarkers, Exact sciences. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2026-07-23); national funding data, not CORDIS; selected because its keywords name quantum. Abstract given by the source: Tracking and monitoring the levels of cancer biomarkers is a parameter for controlling health conditions to predict the recurrence of cancer in people who suffer or have suffered from this disease. The development of handheld and direct reading devices is a means of diagnosis that allows patients to control their levels of biomarkers in real time. A simple array of fluorometric sensors based on fluorescent compounds is proposed for visual quantification of cancer biomarkers. Detection on colorimetric fluorescent test paper will allow the naked eye observation of fluorescent color variations. The fluorescence biomimetic system will be assembled using an internal reference system together with a sensor system, in a set called “off-on” biomimetic sensor. Integrated with the paper strip, an electronic recognition platform will work with a color application to make sensitive, reliable, real-time detection for a target analyte. A color variation of the biomimetic sensor will appear when adding a human physiological sample containing the target analyte. The biomimetic sensor platform will act as an analyte OFF/ON signal. If the analyte is present, it will give an ON state of the sensor, with a certain color, otherwise, it will give an OFF state of the sensor, also with a certain color, but different from the first one. All steps necessary to build the biomimetic sensor will be tested and validated extensively to infer its applicability and sensibility for a specific biomarker.
