Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2021-04494_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Stockholm University. Funded amount: SEK 3,600,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2022-01-01 to 2025-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Atom- och molekylfysik och optik, Atom and Molecular Physics and Optics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The aim of this proposal is to develop a novel system for quantum simulation. Our implementation exploits quantum states of light generated by single semiconductor quantum dots embedded in photonic microcavities to drive a laser-written photonic circuit. We will engineer the photonic environment of the quantum dots, e.g. the cavities surrounding them, in such a way to obtain quantum states of light that are compatible with the operation of a photonic circuit. We will investigate how the quantum states of light propagate in such a circuit and what effects are enabled by their use.The significance of this approach comes from the quantum advantage. The system we propose would allow for functionalities that were not attainable before, because photonic circuits achieved up to date were mostly driven by light derived from attenuated lasers. Under such conditions it is possible to observe and study quantum effects, however, the main quantum traits such as entanglement and coherent superposition are not attainable. By fulfilling the goals of this proposal we will take decisive step toward an implementation of a photonic circuit that can harness the power of quantum simulation.
