Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2014-06894_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: KTH, Royal Institute of Technology. Funded amount: SEK 3,150,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2015-01-01 to 2017-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Atom- och molekylfysik och optik, Atom and Molecular Physics and Optics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-04); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The aim of this research project is to address some of the current obstacles in quantum information methodologies based on solid-state qubits, by exploring fundamental quantum effects in systems based on quantum emitters and nanostructures. The coupling between closely spaced qubits has been reported, but an efficient quantum network based on free-space photons is prohibited by the small scattering cross-sections of quantum emitters. Therefore, this project will increase the coupling between the quantum emitters through sub-wavelength optical modes by combining state-of-the-art nanofabrication of plasmonic nanostructures and waveguides and quantum control methodologies. The research will contribute to the development and implementation of novel ultra-small, fundamental quantum optical devices that can be used in future designs of fully integrated quantum computers and devices. One of the many important aspects of the project is the ability to couple single emitters deterministically to a waveguide, a problem that previously has been addressed by the host group. The host group are experts in quantum optics and nanoplasmonics and has several recent publications on quantum emitters in high-impact journals. Additionally, they work in close collaboration with leading theoretical research groups in the field. There are few, if any, research groups in the world that would suit this project better.
