Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Research environment), grant 2016-05996_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Lund University. Funded amount: SEK 23,976,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2017-01-01 to 2022-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Subatomär fysik, Subatomic Physics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics is well established, especially by the recent observation of a Higgslike state. Nevertheless, problems abound.Within the SM, QCD is well established as the correct theory of strong interactions, but the vacuum is non-trivial, perturbative expansions converge badly and non-linear effects are important. This requires the development of special techniques, where the Lund group is active and has contributed significantly. Some examples are:- hadronization models and properties;- parton cascades in hard processes, and their merging with matrix elements;- underlying events and soft physics in hadronic collisions;- implications of QCD in searches and studies of new physics;- low-energy effective theories;- implications for nonleptonic matrix elements and other low-energy approaches to QCD; and- event generator development and maintenance. In recent years activities have expanded into model building for physics beyond the SM, with extended Higgs sectors, supersymmetry and new gauge structures as examples. These studies are of relevance both for LHC and astroparticle experiments. The research of the group is internationally well known and respected, and results are very actively used by the particle physics community. We here apply for the necessary financial support, for personnel, travel and visitors, to allow us to continue and expand this successful program within our existing cohesive environment.
