Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2023-04604_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: KTH, Royal Institute of Technology. Funded amount: SEK 3,680,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2024-01-01 to 2027-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Atom- och molekylfysik och optik, Atom and Molecular Physics and Optics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: In QUENIM (Quantum Enhanced Imaging), we develop and demonstrate a new quantum imaging technology based on single photon detection with two new instruments: a telescope and a microscope. These quantum imaging instruments will be designed and built to reach unprecedented resolution and performances. We validate our new quantum imaging instruments in two key applications: atmospheric measurements and microscopy on biological tissue for oxygen singlet measurements. QUENIM proceeds from quantum device development to the implementation of complete instruments in the field. We will make quantum enhanced imaging widely and routinely used in physical and biomedical measurements. The new instruments will generate precise and live atmospheric environmental maps of air pollution with telescopes and enable deeper imaging in biological samples with microscopes. We will demonstrate resolution beyond the classical limit through photon correlation measurements with telescopes and through the use of entangled pairs of photons in microscopy. Operating at the single photon level enables us to operate our Lidar system over several kilometers and generate live 3D maps of CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. With our confocal scanning microscope, we will reduce photodamage to a minimum and measure concentration of the very faint oxygen singlet molecules by operating at the single photon level.
