Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2008-05227_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Stockholm University. Funded amount: SEK 3,392,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2009-01-01 to 2012-12-31. Keywords: Oklassificerat, Unclassified. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The subject of quantum information and quantum computing brings together ideas from classical information theory, computer science, and quantum physics. It turns out that information theory and quantum mechanics fit together very well. Quantum entanglement, which represents one of the most striking features of the quantum formalism and an essential resource in quantum information and quantum computation, forms the essential new ingredient, which distinguishes quantum from classical information theory, and, arguably, quantum from classical physics. The flourishing of this new field may guide the way to revolutionary advances in technology and in our understanding of the physical universe. The main goal of this project is to achieve a better understanding of the properties of the quantum entanglement. A deep investigation of quantum entanglement therefore appears as a necessary prerequisite for understanding and exploiting practically its useful features. Moreover, expected results of the project will provide new insights in quantum information and will become important contributions to the practical implementations of quantum information processing and quantum computing.
