Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2017-04197_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Chalmers University of Technology. Funded amount: SEK 3,200,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2018-01-01 to 2021-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Den kondenserade materiens fysik, Condensed Matter Physics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: This proposal concerns advanced basic and applied aspects of quantum information technology, at the interface between quantum physics, computer science, and electronics. Nanoscale superconducting heterostructures present a testing ground for fundamental quantum physics and provide a number of applications to quantum effect devices, in particular Josephson junction circuits for qubits, quantum computing and quantum simulation, working in the microwave regime. The project concerns in particular theoretical work on:quantum optics of propagating 1D microwaves interacting with artificial atoms (qubits)generation of non-classical microwavesdetection of non-classical microwavesdemonstrating quantum supremacy using propagating microwavesquantized surface acoustic waves coupled to superconducting circuitscharacterization of giant atoms and time delays in quantum circuitsultrastrong coupling of a superconducting qubit to SAWBoth topics build on results from the previous project. The research field concerned with quantum information in superconducting circuits is growing rapidly, where now more than 10 experimental groups worldwide are able to produce superconducting quantum bits routinely. Thus, theoretical work in this field can have a large impact. All of the subprojects are aligned with the upcoming European Flagship project and a continued support from VR would enable us to secure a strong position in the upcoming Flagship calls.
