Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Grant for positions or stipends), grant 2019-05615_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Stockholm University. Funded amount: SEK 3,200,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2020-01-01 to 2023-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Atom- och molekylfysik och optik, Atom and Molecular Physics and Optics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-04); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Two revolutionary theories have transformed physics in the 20th century. The general theory of relativity altered our understanding of space and time, while quantum theory provided a new set of physical laws for the microscopic world, revealing entirely novel phenomena. But the basic concepts underlying the two theories differ profoundly and are even in part contradictory. Understanding the interface between the two realms remains one of the main open questions in modern physics. The lack of experiments in this regime adds to the challenge. This project will focus on post-Newtonian effects in the quantum dynamics at low energies and how they can be probed in experiments. A major focus of the project is to find ways to leverage quantum control and novel quantum systems for entirely new tests of the interplay between quantum theory and gravity, as well as new tests of general relativity in table-top setups. The work will encompass tests of general relativity with enhanced precision, studying the dynamics of quantum systems on curved space-time, providing paths to test signatures of the quantization of gravity and exploring implications of relativistic effects for quantum information processing. The main goal is to shed light on the largely unexplored interface between quantum physics and gravity, paving the way to experimental studies of this field with quantum optical systems.
