Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Research environment), grant 2016-06059_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Chalmers University of Technology. Funded amount: SEK 23,688,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2017-01-01 to 2022-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Atom- och molekylfysik och optik, Atom and Molecular Physics and Optics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-06); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: We propose to create a new research environment for Quantum Plasmonics (QP) at Chalmers. It connects between and builds upon the two established research fields of Plasmonics and Microwave Quantum Optics. The vision is to deliver a room-temperature quantum technology for controlled photon-photon interaction at the single photon level. If successful, deterministic entanglement generation could enable novel and efficient designs for quantum repeaters, thus enabling truly long-distance secure communication. Optical plasmonic chips with arrays of photon-photon interaction sites would enable room-temperature quantum simulation and potentially also quantum computation. The researchers in the environment have been collaborating since 2012, but it is now very timely to establish the QP environment properly. Both publication and citation numbers in QP are growing exponentially. Recently, European Commission announces plans to initiate a Flagshiplike (1000 MEUR over 10 years) initiative on Quantum Technologies. A nationally supported QP environment will have the possibility to establish itself as an important node both in this European effort and in the rapidly growing research field of QP.The effort is to large to be handled by the separate research groups separately. The funding will be used to fund additional post-docs boosting the actual research, as well as for organizing regular national and international workshops, and in addition to develop and maintain relevant PhD-courses.
