Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2011-04108_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Lund University. Funded amount: SEK 4,150,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2012-01-01 to 2015-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Den kondenserade materiens fysik, Condensed Matter Physics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-04); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Semiconductor spin field effect transistors (spin-FETs) and semiconductor spin quantum bits (spin qubits) are two future, emerging information technologies. In both technologies, spins in semiconductor nanostructures are employed as information carriers. The advantages of these semiconductor nanostructure based spin devices are small device size, low power consumption, high speed, high computing powers, and integration ability with current semiconductor technologies. In the proposed project, we aim at developing spin FETs, spin qubits, and related single and integrated spin devices based on semiconductor heterostructures and semiconductor nanowires. The proposed work consists of material growth, nanofabrication, electrical measurements, and theory and modeling. More specifically, the aims of the proposed project are: (1) Development of spin devices based on InGaAs/InP heterostructures; (2) Development of spin devices based on InAs, InSb and GaSb nanowires; (3) Development of spin qubits with integrated readout in InGaAs heterostructures; (4) Development of spin qubits in InAs, InSb and GaSb nanowires; (5) Integration of semiconductor nanowire spin qubit devices with a readout scheme defined in a nearby semiconductor nanowire and in a planar semiconductor heterostructure. The tasks defined above are all challenging. When accomplished, the proposed work will have strong impact on the future, emerging information technology.
