Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2008-04344_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Linköping University. Funded amount: SEK 2,025,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2009-01-01 to 2011-12-31. Keywords: Oklassificerat, Unclassified. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-05); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: Quantum dots and wires based on the wide bandgap material systems Ga/In/Al-N and ZnO will be fabricated with different techniques, e.g. Stranski-Krastanov and catalythic growth and synthesis. The optical characterization will be performed by means of photoluminescence (PL) with the purpose to investigate the emissions behavior in order to obtain information about the origin of emissions, confinement and radiative efficiency etc. In a second step, single dot spectroscopy will be performed by means of micro–PL and scanning near field optical microscope (SNOM). Some essential objectives for the optical characterization in individual nitride/ZnO based quantum dots/wires: • To investigate excitonic features: Neutral single excitons, biexcitons and/or charged excitons by means of micro-luminescence and SNOM • To study the electronic structure and recombination processes by PL and PL excitation spectroscopy • To investigate excitonic features in the presence of external/internal electric and/or magnetic fields prevailing in the nitride quantum systems • To perform dynamical studies with a particular emphasis on the role of surfaces in the recombination • To make simulations by computational quantum-chemistry methods and to use the results to understand the structural and optical properties of the quantum wires/dots
