Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2009-04111_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: Chalmers University of Technology. Funded amount: SEK 2,700,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2010-01-01 to 2012-12-31. Keywords: Oklassificerat, Unclassified. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-04); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: String/M theory has a huge set of solutions, the "landscape", making unique predictions in particle physics difficult. Instead this may indicate that it should be viewed as a consistent quantum mechanical framework applicable to all kinds of physics at all possible scales. Applications of AdS/CFT to condensed matter physics are particularly interesting since many strongly coupled systems could then be treated for the first time. Also questions concerning universality of 3-dim systems could be addressed in this context, similar to the well known case of 2-dim CFT. In this project we study 3-dim conformal field theories at both classical and quantum level. Recently discovered superconformal field theories known as BLG and ABJM, with eight and six supersymmetris resp, have attracted a lot of attention and many aspects have already been well undestood. So far in this project their algebraic structures have been studied together with their couplings to conformal supergravities. I have also started to address the issue of finiteness using the light-cone formulation, as many years ago done successfully for N=4 superYM. Another direction of research concerns investigations of non-perturbative instanton effects due to D-branes and NS5-branes, the latter poorly understood so far. In a recent work automorphic forms for the universal hypermultiplet have been defined which contain contributions due to NS5-branes. One goal is to find a better definition of string/M theory.
