Project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT) (Concurso para Projetos de Investigação de caráter Exploratório em Todos os Domínios Científicos 2024), grant 2024.16651.PEX. Funded amount: EUR 60,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2026-02-01 to 2027-07-31. Keywords: Heterostructured quantum dot nanomaterials, Self-powered textile supercapacitor technology, Solar energy harvesting, Electrochemical energy storage, Engineering and technology. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-26); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The increasing global energy demand and the environmental impact of fossil fuel dependency underscore the urgent need for clean and efficient energy harvesting and storage solutions. Although solar energy is a promising renewable source, its intermittent nature requires integration with advanced electrochemical energy storage technologies to ensure a continuous power supply. However, conventional solar generator/energy storage systems often lack the seamless integration required for wearable electronics and smart textiles, as they are typically based on rigid structures and are composed of two separate components. In this context, Sun4E-TexSupCap aims to revolutionize energy autonomy by integrating photovoltaic energy generation and electrochemical energy storage into a new class of ALL-IN-ONE flexible, lightweight, and MULTIFUNCTIONAL PHOTOSUPERCAPACITOR (PSC) . This SELF-POWERED TECHNOLOGY will be developed on textile substrates, envisaging simultaneous solar energy harvesting and supercapacitive energy storage, thereby fostering self-sustained wearable electronics. To achieve that goal, NOVEL heterostructures of quantum dots hybridized with carbon nanomaterials with synergistically enhanced electrical, optical, and redox properties will be FOR THE FIRST TIME used as multifunctional electrodes in ALL-IN-ONE PSCs directly developed on textile substrates. The potential of these smart QD-based heterostructures as redox-active mediators of solid-gel polyelectrolytes will also be explored to boost the solar charging and energy storage outputs of the resulting textile-based PSC technologies. MAIN TARGETS: NOVEL HYBRID QUANTUM-DOT-BASED NANO-HETEROSTRUCTURES: Design of new quantum dot-based heterostructures hybridized with carbon nanomaterials with synergistically enhanced optical, electrical, and redox properties. MULTIFUNCTIONAL REDOX-ACTIVE QD-DOPED SOLID-GEL ELECTROLYTES: Development of novel solid-gel polymer electrolytes doped with QD-based materials, enhancing [shortened; the full text is on the OpenAIRE page]
