Project funded by Swedish Research Council (Project grant), grant 2012-01667_VR. Participating organisations named by the source: University of Gothenburg. Funded amount: SEK 2,325,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2013-01-01 to 2015-12-31. Keywords: Naturvetenskap, Natural Sciences, Fysik, Physical Sciences, Den kondenserade materiens fysik, Condensed Matter Physics. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-12-04); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The purpose of the proposed project is to carry out a comprehensive theoretical study of strongly non-equilibrium nanoelectromechanical (NEM) phenomena in magnetic NEM structures with a primary emphasis on mesoscopic features caused by Coulomb blockade of single-electron tunneling, electron-spin dynamics and quantum coherence in both electronic and mechanical degrees of freedom. The proposed research will contribute to the development of a new direction in mesoscopic physics, focussed on the spin-dependent mesoscopics of magnetic nano-electromechanical systems. The aim is both to explore the possibility to control electromechanical phenomena on the nanometer scale by exploiting the spin degree of freedom and to demonstrate new NEM functionality caused by spin-dependent forces (spintro-mechanics). These aims will be pursued in close contact with ongoing experiments in leading groups in Germany (LMU Munich), Holland (TU Delft) and the UK (Univ. of Bath).
