Project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT) (FCT_CPCA_2021_01), grant 2021.09622.CPCA. Funded amount: EUR 13,442, as stated by the source. Runs 2022-03-03 to 2023-07-31. Keywords: Graphene, Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs), Graphene NanoRibbons, Quantum Chemistry, Nanoelectronics, Engineering and technology. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-07-19); national funding data, not CORDIS; selected because its keywords name quantum. Abstract given by the source: The discovery of graphene opened up exciting possibilities for 2D organic materials. Remarkably, graphene, due to its extended conjugation, shows high electron and hole mobilities with values in excess of 15,000 cm^2/V/s on SiO2. Additionally, it possesses a unique set of properties, such as transparency, lightweight and flexibility yet it is is a zero-gap semiconductor, which constitutes a hurdle in its implementation into semiconducting devices and thus in the development of practical applications. This project aims to study bottom-up graphene-based materials with suitable properties for a new generation of electronics computationally. Either to explore different novel and prospective graphene materials and molecules as well as to understand new organic materials in the field of graphene such as nanoribbons and flakes and in the field of Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs). This project will study carbon materials with a combination of solid-state physics, computational chemistry and high-performance computing to study. For this , ad-hoc composite models based on models of increasing computational cost such as tight-binding, density functional theory and multideterminant wavefunction calculations will be used to design, understand and predict the structural and electronic properties of semiconducting materials.
