Project funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation (Projects), grant NNF22OC0079960. Participating organisations named by the source: Aarhus University. Runs n/a to 2026-03-31. Keywords: Materials, Nanotechnology, Physics, Quantum Technologies. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2025-08-01); national funding data, not CORDIS; selected because its keywords name quantum. Abstract given by the source: A material that is capable of conducting electrical current with zero resistance is referred to as a superconductor. Despite far-reaching technological benefits of harnessing superconductivity, its fundamental quantum mechanical origin remains a great mystery for a wide range of materials. This project will introduce a new approach to assemble superconducting matter by stacking atomic layers one-by-one. Precision control of the interlayer rotation angle between atomic planes introduces a tuning knob to align the quantum states of the charge carrying electrons within each layer and thereby force electrons to form superconducting pairs. The resulting quantum states will be directly visualized using intense pulses of light, which will guide on-demand superconductivity by twisting atomically thin crystals. This methodology will provide a new platform for a solid-state quantum simulator, paving the way to bioinformatics based on quantum information technology.
