Project funded by French National Research Agency (ANR), grant ANR-08-BLAN-0034. Participating organisations named by the source: CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE - DELEGATION REGIONALE ILE-DE-FRANCE SECTEUR PARIS A; CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE - DELEGATION REGIONALE ILE-DE-FRANCE SECTEUR OUEST ET NORD. Funded amount: EUR 372,486, as stated by the source. Runs 2009-01-01 to n/a. Abstract given by the source: Semiconductor quantum dots have unique size dependent optical properties that depend greatly on the way they are synthesized. Recently, we have managed to synthesize core/shell QDs in such a way that the QD shell is grown epitaxially on the QD core without defect. Such QDs with thick shells emit fluorescence continuously without blinking when observed for 5 minutes at the single particle level. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first observation of non blinking QDs. In this project, we propose to focus on the understanding of this novel observation. To this end, we will continue to develop QD core/shell synthesis with an emphasis on the understanding of the QD chemistry formation, and we will develop precise QDs characterization at the single particle level both optically and structurally.
