KPI Eco 3: Lab-to-fab infrastructure and value chains

KPI observatory / Ecosystem

EU research institutions offering open application labs, testbeds or production cleanrooms with testing, prototyping and calibration services that European SMEs can use, from TRL 2 to 6.

Official values: survey results of the Quantum Flagship Strategic Advisory Board, as published. Trajectory and live measure: calculations of this portal, not the assessment of the SAB.

Remarks and method

The booklet gives no remark for this indicator.

Method as stated: Open online KPI survey; the booklet lists the 30 facilities counted for 2024 (reference Ecosystem 3).

Trajectory (calculated by the portal)

facilities

On pace

On pace: recent pace 2021-2024: (30 - 1) / 3 = 9.7 a year; needed pace to 2030: (60 - 30) / 6 = 5 a year; compound growth: recent +210.7%, needed +12.2% a year. Portal calculation, not the SAB assessment.

At the recent linear pace the value would be about 88 in 2030.

The booklet rates each indicator on its own four-level scale (ahead of schedule, on schedule, needs progress, behind schedule); that assessment is not reproduced here.

Live measure of the portal

A proxy calculated by the portal from its own data; it is not the official value and measures something related, not the same thing.

How it is calculated

Entries of the infrastructure catalogue whose sources name a testing service or a fabrication service as an access route.

Coverage: The source-verified infrastructure catalogue: EuroHPC, EuroQCI, Qu-Test and Qu-Pilot, Chips JU pilot lines and national platforms.

Limitations:

  • Several entries are networks or projects that group many sites; the SAB counts research institutions.
  • A named access route is not proof that SMEs can book the service today.
  • The catalogue has no history, so there is no yearly series.
