Map of quantum research across Europe

This map shows where organisations take part in EU-funded quantum research (Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects with a quantum focus, from CORDIS). Choose what the shading shows, narrow it to a technology area, a period or a programme, and select a country for its figures, partners and infrastructure. It is a catalogue of EU-funded projects, not a census of the European quantum ecosystem.
Organisation-level markers and the organisation table are shown to signed-in members.Sign in or request access
Three different counts, one definition each. The headline figure of a country, used on the country profiles, is the number of EU-funded quantum projects with at least one participant in that country (CORDIS); participations count each organisation in each project, so a project with two participants in a country counts twice. Dark squares count the records on this portal whose own country is that country: EU, national and regional projects and organisations, each counted in its coordinator or host country (6801 records have no country yet). They are not comparable with the CORDIS figures.
Project start

Projects with at least one participant in the country; a project with partners in five countries counts in all five.

Shapes are simplified and positions are indicative. The table "Countries in this view" below the map repeats every figure.Jersey. EU-funded quantum projects: no data in this viewIsle of Man. Countries in this view

Every country with a figure in the view, including those outside the map extent. Projects count once per country; participations count each organisation in each project once (the dashboard counts CORDIS rows, so a few countries differ by one or two). Net EU contribution is shown for the whole dataset only. Source: CORDIS, retrieved 2026-10-16.

Who works with whom

Counts are shared EU-funded quantum projects (CORDIS, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe): projects in which both organisations, or organisations from both countries, take part. National and EU cohesion-policy projects are not included. This shows co-participation, not the strength of a relationship. The EU contribution of shared projects is the EU contribution to each whole project, not the part received by the two partners. Source: CORDIS, retrieved 2026-10-16.

Partners of individual organisations are shown to signed-in members.
