Project funded by Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), grant EXCELLENCE/0421/0362. Participating organisations named by the source: University of Cyprus. Funded amount: EUR 200,000, as stated by the source. Runs 2022-03-31 to 2024-03-31. Source: OpenAIRE Graph, from the funder's project data (collected by OpenAIRE on 2026-07-23); national funding data, not CORDIS. Abstract given by the source: The general scope of this proposal is to address fundamental questions in cosmology from theoretical perspectives. Two main topics will be considered. The first is concerned with the initial state of the Universe and whether there is a quantum statistical interpretation that favors inflationary initial conditions. The second is to gain insight into exact properties of the Hartle-Hawking wavefunction of the Universe by utilizing recent holographic results concerning the entanglement of the underlying degrees of freedom across causally disconnected regions of space, which are separated by horizons. In order to obtain answers to these questions, we will consider formulations of quantum gravity in terms of string theory and quantum field theory.
