Explore by function, platform and application
The same technologies seen along separate axes: what is measured (function), which quantum system measures it (physical platform), where it is used (application sector) and, only where a source states it, how mature it is. An item can carry several values on each axis. Every value has a definition, its official sources and its validation state.
Status of this taxonomy: Complete proposal: every axis is meant to be exhaustive for quantum sensing and metrology as described by the sources. Proposed, not yet validated by an expert.
156 of 437 confirmed items get at least one function value from the rules.
| Value | Definition | Validation | Confirmed items |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magnetic field | Measuring the strength or direction of a magnetic field or flux, down to the faint fields of the brain and heart or of single spins. | Proposed — not yet validated by an expert | 19 |
| Gravity, acceleration and rotation | Measuring gravity and its gradients, acceleration or rotation, the quantities inertial navigation and geophysical surveys rely on. | Proposed — not yet validated by an expert | 36 |
| Time and frequency | Keeping time or realising a stable frequency by counting an atomic or ionic transition, from microwave clocks to optical and nuclear clocks. | Proposed — not yet validated by an expert | 29 |
| Electric, radio-frequency and microwave fields | Measuring static or oscillating electric fields, from radio and microwave signals to terahertz radiation, and single electric charges. | Proposed — not yet validated by an expert | 1 |
| Temperature | Measuring temperature with a quantum reference, such as noise thermometry, colour-centre spectra or quantum-noise-calibrated oscillators, including primary thermometers. | Proposed — not yet validated by an expert | 2 |
| Force, displacement, strain and pressure | Measuring mechanical quantities such as force, mass, displacement, strain, vibration or pressure, including gravitational-wave strain. | Proposed — not yet validated by an expert | 0 |
| Imaging, microscopy and ranging | Forming images, microscopy maps or range and target information with quantum light or quantum probes, beyond what classical imaging resolves. | Proposed — not yet validated by an expert | 72 |
| Photon and particle detection | Detecting single photons, single electrons or particles, and resolving their number or energy, as in single-photon counting or dark-matter searches. | Proposed — not yet validated by an expert | 4 |
| Electrical quantities and quantum electrical standards | Realising or measuring voltage, resistance, current and impedance from quantum effects, the basis of the electrical units of the SI. | Proposed — not yet validated by an expert | 0 |
How items get a value
Only items already confirmed under this pillar are counted. An item gets a value when it is confirmed under a technology family that stands for the value, when one of its CPC codes falls under a CPC group of the value, or when a keyword of the value appears in its public title. The listing of each value says which rule matched. The rules never place an item under the pillar, so a CPC group that is not limited to quantum devices cannot bring a classical sensor in. Organisations are named, not described, so they mostly get values through their families. Patents are counted in technology intelligence per CPC group, not item by item, so they are not in these counts.

Overview
The technology atlas of Quantum sensing and metrology: its value chain, the documented actors by role, facilities, funding, patents and publications, standards and policy measures on one page, each from a source the portal already publishes. Each section says whether these sources document the technology, show an evidence gap or hold nothing about it.

| Evidence gaps | Evidence gap in these sources | 1 |
- Documented in these sources: at least one record of these sources is about this technology.
- Evidence gap in these sources: the parts tree names a stage, but no documented European actor is linked to it here. Evidence gap in these sources, not a finding of dependency.
- No evidence found in these sources: No evidence found in these sources. It means only that these sources hold nothing on it.
Public layer: structure and documented actors only. Actor roles come from typed, dated relationships and are never inferred from shared projects or patents. Supplier assessments of the restricted dependency map are not shown on this public page. No technology readiness level is given.

Each project counts once. A total adds the amount each source states for its projects within one measure and one currency only: EU contributions, national awards and other measures are never added together. Total cost includes the award and is shown separately. A country filter keeps whole projects with a participant in the country, so its total is not the country's share. Programme envelopes, partner shares, co-funding and payments are separate layers and are never added to awards; payments are not published by the sources used. Outputs are linked only through an explicit project or grant identifier or reviewed documentary evidence, never by name alone; only a reviewed document can show a demonstrated contribution. CORDIS and Funding & Tenders amounts are one measure, the EU contribution (maximum grant agreed in the grant agreement, not payments). Country codes EL and UK are read as GR (Greece) and GB (United Kingdom). National and regional rows whose title names no quantum technology are left out unless asked for. EU and national totals are shown apart and never added.
Includes projects from the ANR open data: ANR, data.gouv.fr, ODbL 1.0; those rows are shared alike under the Open Database Licence.
