How projects are counted: the figure above is the number of EU-funded quantum projects in CORDIS with at least one participant in France, the definition used across the country pages. National projects are counted separately below. The projects listing filtered by country shows the records whose own country (coordinator or host) is France, EU and national together, and the map counts portal records the same way, so their numbers differ.

National quantum communities

  • Le Lab Quantique (LLQ): French not-for-profit founded in 2018 that federates the French quantum ecosystem, with 50+ members and partners and a 400+ student community, and represents French quantum interests in governance, outreach and international ties.Source: Le Lab Quantique: About, retrieved 2026-10-22; By the numbers; mission and behaviours; Le Lab Quantique: home page, retrieved 2026-10-22; Headline and three areas of activity
  • Les Maisons du Quantique (Quantum Houses): Initiative supporting quantum communities, begun as a workspace at Station F and supported by HQI since 2025; its Île-de-France branch Quorum is backed by CEA, Le Lab Quantique, Pôle Systematic and Teratec, and it aims to co-locate hybrid quantum computing ecosystems in French regions.Source: Le Lab Quantique: Les Maisons du Quantique, retrieved 2026-10-22; Introduction; Quorum section; missions

Method: the CORDIS figures are totals over all EU-funded quantum projects in the catalogue (projects starting 2015 to 2027); population and GDP are the latest single year Eurostat publishes for France. Figures per inhabitant and per unit of GDP therefore set cumulative quantum funding against one year of population or output: they correct for the size of the country, not for time. The share of GERD compares yearly averages instead: the EU quantum contribution divided by the number of project start years, against the average yearly GERD over the years of the same span that have a figure. The time windows of the two sources differ, so read these as indicators of relative scale, not as budget shares. Provisional and estimated values are marked as Eurostat flags them. A dash means no figure or no EU contribution; "less than" marks a positive figure too small to show at this precision.

288 distinct projects in all; a project with several areas counts in each. 135 projects are placed by the taxonomy rules on their titles or a keyword suggestion, pending review (they have no reviewed technology tag). Pillars follow one method across the portal: the confirmed classification of a project where there is one, else the taxonomy rules on its title, else the snapshot keyword suggestion when a keyword matched; a project that matches none of them is "Not placed in a pillar" and is counted apart, not under enabling technologies. A project in several pillars is split evenly between them; post-quantum cryptography is shown apart.

Quantum infrastructure

  • Ruby: Neutral atoms; analogue/digital quantum simulator (Procured under the HPCQS project and inaugurated at the end of 2025 in France, per the EuroHPC JU. Listed by the EuroHPC JU as located in Bruyères-le-Châtel.)
  • Lucy: Photonic; digital quantum computer (Inaugurated on 14 April 2026 in Bruyères-le-Châtel, the fourth EuroHPC quantum computer to be inaugurated.)
  • France Hybrid HPC Quantum Initiative (HQI) platform: Hybrid HPC–quantum platform coupled to the Joliot-Curie supercomputer: Ruby (analogue neutral-atom system controlling 100 rubidium atoms), Lucy (12-photon photonic QPU) and Qaptiva QPU emulation (The source says HQI serves French and European academic and industrial researchers who want to evaluate quantum computing free of charge on a public infrastructure. Time on Ruby and Lucy is requested through GENCI's DARI allocation process, with at most 100 hours on the quantum partition. Ruby and Lucy also have their own entries.)
  • FranceQCI: Advanced national quantum systems and networks for QKD, building on the Paris (ParisRegionQCI) and Nice (Quantum@UCA) regional infrastructures (The source says FranceQCI aims to deploy advanced national quantum systems and networks to test quantum communication technologies and integrate them into existing communication networks in France, evolving towards operational QKD services. The EU Funding & Tenders Portal gives the project period 2023-01 to 2025-10; the period has ended.)
